Advocacy

I have a strong commitment to advocacy, particularly in understanding and addressing the needs of abused children within the state of California and nationwide. For decades, I served as the Founding Chair of the Committee on Disaster and Trauma for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I have also actively worked to address the needs of children and adolescents within First Peoples and the Tribal Nations of the Americas.

In addition, I am committed to supporting the rights and diverse needs of women, especially women working in healing and medicine.

My writing, clinical work, podcasting, and teaching combine in these efforts.

Philosophy & Practice

My clinical interests have developed over 40 years of practice. I am well-known for my work with children and teenagers who have both engaged in and been affected by risk-taking.
